Hinduism in South Asia and the Modern World
The Religious Studies Program at the University of Arizona seeks applications for a tenure track position in Hinduism in South Asia and the Modern World at the level of assistant professor.
Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Religious Studies or a closely related field by August 1, 2014, professional-level competence in English, and an excellent record in teaching, including a demonstrated ability to teach courses in Hinduism. In addition, applicants must have the ability to teach Introduction to Religion and the Senior Capstone for the Religious Studies undergraduate major (taught on a rotating basis with other faculty). Scholars specializing in Hinduism in the context of modern South Asia, with competence in the appropriate languages for research and teaching in this field, are encouraged to apply. In addition, the University of Arizona is interested in candidates with teaching competency in one or more of the following areas: Hindu-Muslim Relations; Hinduism and related religions in the Americas; Health, Healing, and Spirituality in the Indian tradition; and/or Hindu Ethics and modern Indian society.
Responsibilities will include teaching two courses each semester, participation in service through committee work and outreach, and an active research and publication agenda.
Review of applications will begin on November 10, 2013. Applications received by this time will be considered for preliminary interviews at the American Academy of Religion Annual Conference in Baltimore.
